Charming accommodation in an elegant setting
We are located at 40 Charlton Lane, which runs parallel to S.H.1 on the south side of Gore, Southland, New Zealand.
We are located in one of the world’s best fishing regions.
We are only a paddock away from the Mataura River, which is famous for brown trout fishing. Our homestay is conveniently close to Gore’s shops, restaurants, and many amenities.
You might be welcomed by Cara our friendly ‘Receptionist’, also a want-to-be sheepdog. Photo supplied. However, if you don’t like dogs, just let us know. We will keep her away.
Our separate guest lounge has TV, a sound system, DVDs, CDs and books.
The dining room has a large farm-style dining table, TV, home theatre, CDs, DVDs, and facilities for guests to make tea, coffee etc. (provided).
The courtyard, with outdoor open fireplace provides sheltered outdoor seating and dining. There is also a laundry for guests to use.
There are electric blankets and a hair dryer in each room.
Our guests are welcome to enjoy our extensive gardens, with several seating rest areas, where you can take in the fragrances of the season. In the paddock beside the house, our very friendly sheep welcome being fed. Each has its individual personality!
We are bike friendly hosts. We own a Honda ST1300 so we know the good rides to suggest. We also have good lock up facilities to keep your bike dry and safe.
Courtesy Transfers are available.
We accept VISA, MASTERCARD and cash.
Full, cooked breakfast or continental breakfast is available.
We offer home-made jams, bread, muesli and sauces when available, (while stocks last!).
We have named Falconer Lodge after the Falconer family, who built it in 1913, as a farm style home on a small holding, on the outskirts of Gore. All the outside and inside walls are constructed using local brick, in the villa style of the time.
Throughout 2013-2014 we have been re-invigorating the house, and we have put it to good use again. We have updated the rooms for today’s life style, while trying to retain some of the character, atmosphere and farm style living.
In front of our Lodge grow 2 large and very well furnished Monkey Puzzle (Araucaria aracana) Trees, planted approx 1914. A male and a female, so they are still producing viable seed. Interesting to note their differing shapes! Heritage listed of course.
Gore is well located to travel to many destinations - the Catlins 1hour, Invercargill 1hr, Queenstown 2hr, Cromwell 2 hr and Milford Sound 2.5 hr.
Gore has good shopping, restaurants, swimming pool, sports grounds, golf course, Town & Country Club, fishing, bowls, parks and gardens and many more attractions which can be found on the web site www.gorenz.com

Hi Murray and Zena,
Thank you for your warm welcome at your beautiful B&B. We really appreciated your warm, comfortable and relaxing house and its history. Ross and Bill also appreciated your guiding and advice on the local fishing - a shame they didn't catch any). Even your kind offer to drop us at the Town and Country Club for tea was very helpful and just gave us that bit more special time while at Gore.
We would recommend your lovely home and wish you a very enjoyable and fulfilling venture in the Falconer Lodge B&B.
A big thank you,
